Building & Development Services
The Building and Development Services Department (BDS) is generally responsible for development, implementation, and enforcement of the City’s Zoning, Subdivision, Development, Building, and Sign regulations, as well as other relevant city regulations and State statutes. BDS primarily issues construction-related permits, but is also responsible for sign permits, vending / solicitation permits and utility development and maintenance permits.
BDS also serves as the primary contact and facilitator for the
Zoning and Planning Commission, the
City Building Commission, and the
Board of Adjustment.
Additionally, BDS manages the City’s Geographic Information System, which provides city staff and the general public with current maps and database information.
Food Inspections
BDS also oversees the inspection of food establishments through the city’s contract with the Austin / Travis County Health and Human Services Department. (Click on the link to go to the
