In the year 2000, the two-plus acres now known as Heritage Park was deeded from the Lakeway Historical Society, Inc. to the City of Lakeway with the provision that the land may be used, developed, or improved to:

• Develop and enhance local pride in Lakeway’s heritage, growth, and development.
• Educate youth and adults about Lakeway’s historical significance to the region.
• Promote Lakeway’s historical sites and legends.
• Be a repository for the official and historical records regarding the geographical area of Lakeway.
• Further the collection, preservation, storage, and display of Lakeway historical items.

Heritage Park is open to the public all year. The Heritage Center building is open to the public from January through November Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. excluding holidays. Dedicated on Veterans Day, November 11, 1995 – and recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the end of World War II - the monument honors those past and present citizens of Lakeway who have defended our Nation during periods of armed conflict. Special monuments pay tribute to those who during in WWII, Korean, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and the on-going Global War on Terrorism. The Monument was the first element of what is now known as Heritage Park. The Lakeway Heritage Commission solicits annually the names of veterans to be added to the monument. Either the veteran themselves or family members who live in Lakeway or its extraterritorial jurisdiction should contact the Heritage Center at (512) 608-9533, or by email for additional information. The deadline for annual submission is the month of August before Veterans Day.
